Some Background

The Miriello family has a tradition of craftsmanship of sorts. Tailoring, cabinet and instrument making are all skills that came over from Italy. It’s not far fetched that Ron would conceive of a project to create globes from the objects he'd been collecting over the decades. Born in New Jersey, he spent his years after grade school in Colorado, where he graduated from Colorado State University in fine arts and design. After graduation, he lived in Italy where, among other adventures, he interviewed craftsmen and documented their work in sketches, photos and writings. He eventually bought a small home in Radicondoli near Siena, where he collaborates with makers and artists.

For Commerce

Since 1982 Ron has directed Miriello | brand expression, a design and branding studio. The firm operates in a renovated marine warehouse, “The Logan”, located in the working waterfront neighborhood of Barrio Logan, in downtown San Diego.

"Being in Barrio Logan encourages collaborate with creative but humble people, makers, welders, muralists, experimenters. It reminds me of Italy in some ways. Professionally, I work in the world of marketing and brand, helping companies know themselves and tell their story effectively. Barrio helps me stay connected to the real and authentic. These guys don't let you stray into hype. Like the low-rider license plate frame says, "This ride was made, not bought."

“One of the things I’ve enjoyed most with 100WP is working without a plan. Letting the creative instincts drive for a while, and letting commerce just ride along. I wanted to create things I wanted to be around. That's the only plan."-Ron says

About Italy

Italy plays a significant role in how Ron sees the world. The wisdom in the culture seems to inspire in big and small ways:

- prize the rich experience
- old people are cool
- imperfection makes for better wine
- beauty is not an extravagance
- doing it right usually takes longer
- everything taste better with olive oil
